OUR HISTORY REWOUND
This documentary film by Henry Chalfant explores the musical history and cultural heritage of New York's South Bronx, a borough that nurtured two major movements in popular music: the mambo that evolved into salsa, and the hip-hop that arose from the most desperate days of the South Bronx.
The film delves into the vibrant musical scene of the South Bronx, showcasing the evolution of Latin music and its influence on the birth of hip-hop. It features interviews with key figures from both eras, including Eddie Palmieri, Kool Herc, Tito Puente, and Machito, along with old footage of street dancing and musical performances.
